· yīn'ér
And so: the result runs straight out of a cause already stated, joined to it as one continuous line.

字源 FORM what the parts do

因 lies a person (大) on a mat (囗): what you rest on, the cause a matter rests on. 而 is a chin and its beard, borrowed whole for the connective — the strand that ties one clause onto the last. Together: out of the cause, and on into the result.

故事 STORY a scene to remember it by

The cause settles on the mat, and 而 runs a thread off it that pulls the next line straight out as the result.
字源自撰記憶法
框 · Frame
[cause stated],因而 [result]
觸 · Trigger
A cause sits finished in the clause before; the next line follows from it as a smooth continuation, not a fresh point.
序 · The move
1State the cause as a finished clause first. Is the cause complete before 因而, so the result can run off it?
2Open the next clause with 因而, then give the result.Does 因而 lead a result, not a reason?
3Leave the cause clause un-marked.Did you avoid adding 因為 in front — 因而 already carries the cause-to-result join?
例 · Examples
1受到to come under, be subjected to颱風影響effect, influence因而and so, consequently造成to cause, bring about飛機停飛to ground (flights), suspend flying
It came under the typhoon's effect, and so the flights were grounded.
界 · Boundary
因此
因此 plants 此 on the cause and points back at it — for THIS reason. 因而 lays no demonstrative down; 而 threads the result straight on from the cause as one flowing line, with no pointing back.
因為…所以…
因為…所以… brackets both clauses, a marker on the cause and one on the effect. 因而 marks only the result clause and leaves the cause bare, leaning on the cause already stated.
因為下雨,因而我沒去。 → 下雨了,因而我沒去。 (因而 does not pair after 因為; drop 因為 and let 因而 carry the join)
因而下雨,我沒去。 → 下雨了,因而我沒去。 (因而 leads the result, not the cause)
他很努力因而。 → 他很努力,因而成功了。 (因而 connects on to a following result; it cannot end the line)
English 'and so' / 'thus' can drop in mid-sentence with the cause left implied; 因而 needs the cause stated as its own clause first, then runs the result off it.
