方法 · Method

A character holds still when two things attach to it: its form — the components it is built from — and a story that makes those components mean something to the person learning it. Every entry here is organized around those two attachments; the rest of the entry supports them.

形 · Form

Each character is broken into its components, and each component is named for the job it does: carrying the meaning(義), carrying the sound(聲), or drawing the thing itself(形). When a sound component's reading has worn away from the character's modern reading, the entry says so as plain fact — guǐ → kuài — because the wear pattern repeats across characters and is itself worth knowing. Components recur: the analysis done once on pays again in 跟、根、恨、狠.

故事 · Story

Each character carries a short scene built from its components. A story is judged by one outcome: the character sticks. A small mark on every story notes whether it is sourced history(字源)or a memory aid(記憶法)— the mark is information, never an apology. When the historical record offers two tellings, the entry tells both.

Definitions and level

Every entry carries an English definition and a 簡明中文 definition written within the level's own vocabulary. Reading the Chinese definition is practice in itself; the English one is there when speed matters. Example sentences, audio, and spaced review are in progress — features ship when they're ready, and the front page marks what's built and what's still on the loom.
