例 · Examples
1take (pick up)臺灣Taiwan來說to speak of / as an example,現在的老年人口elderly population越來越more and more多,出生率birth rateyet, however越來越低。
Take Taiwan as an example: the elderly population keeps growing, while the birth rate keeps falling.
界 · Boundary
對…來說
拿…來說 grabs one case to illustrate a general point (for instance, X). 對…來說 frames whose viewpoint holds (from X's standpoint). One supplies an example; the other supplies a perspective.
關於
關於 opens a topic flatly (concerning X). 拿…來說 picks X as a sample standing in for a class, with a wider claim already behind it.
missing 來說: 拿臺灣,老年人口越來越多 → 拿臺灣來說,老年人口越來越多
treating the case as the whole subject with no general point: 拿臺灣來說很美 → 拿臺灣來說,物價並不算高
wrong frame for perspective: 拿學生來說考試很重要 (means: students, for instance…) → 對學生來說考試很重要 (from students' standpoint)
English 'take X for example' drops naturally into mid-sentence; learners forget the closing 來說 or fuse it with 'for X' (對…來說).
