Comparison
框 · Frame
[A] 比 [B] [quality]
觸 · Trigger
Two things, and one outranks the other on some dimension.
序 · The move
1Put the one that holds more of the quality first — that is A.Is A really the higher one? Swapping A and B flips the claim.
2Drop 比, then the one it is measured against — that is B.B is the yardstick, not the winner.
3End on the bare quality. No 很 before the quality — 很 cancels the comparison.
例 · Examples
1弟弟younger brothercompared to / than哥哥older brothertall
The younger brother is taller than the older brother.
界 · Boundary
跟…一樣
A比B ranks one above the other; 跟…一樣 says the two match. Ordering vs equality.
沒有 (A沒有B X)
比 is the positive comparison (A is more); 沒有 is its negative (A is not as X as B). Same pair, opposite direction.
弟弟比哥哥很高 → 弟弟比哥哥高 (no 很 inside a comparison)
弟弟比哥哥高很多 when you mean a small gap → 弟弟比哥哥高一點 (match the degree word to the size of the gap)
弟弟高比哥哥 → 弟弟比哥哥高 (quality comes last, after B)
English keeps the adjective up front ('taller than') and puts the standard last; Chinese sets the standard with 比 in the middle and lets the bare quality close the line.
