grammar point · tier 1 · 真 + stative verb — genuinely / truly (felt degree)
· zhēn
Set 真 before a stative verb to stamp the quality as genuinely so — a felt reaction, not a measured amount.

字源 FORM what the parts do

真 carries two old tellings: a ladle packing a cauldron full to the bottom, or 說文's immortal risen to heaven. Both land on solid, real. Set in front of a stative verb, it backs the quality with that solidity: 真好, 真大, 真不錯.

故事 STORY a scene to remember it by

A hand raps the quality once and it rings solid, not hollow.
字源記憶法
框 · Frame
[subj] 真 [stative verb]
觸 · Trigger
A quality strikes you as genuinely so and you want to voice that reaction, not put a number on it.
序 · The move
1Name the quality as a stative verb (好, 大, 不錯, 漂亮).Is it a quality you are reacting to, not an action?
2Put 真 directly in front of it: 真不錯.Is the degree slot open — no 很/太 already filling it?
3Confirm it voices a felt verdict, not a flat statement of fact.Would 很 sound too neutral here? If you mean it, 真 fits.
例 · Examples
1那個房子that housegenuinely / really不錯not bad, nice而且moreover就在學校附近right near the school
That house is really nice, and it's right near the school.
界 · Boundary
真 stamps the quality as genuinely so and carries a felt reaction (真好 = it really is good); 很 just places it high on the scale, often a neutral default carrying no feeling (很好 = good). 真 means it; 很 fills the slot.
太…了
真 affirms the quality with conviction and needs no closer (真貴); 太…了 pushes it past an acceptable limit and shuts with 了 (太貴了 = too expensive). 真 endorses; 太 complains.
那個房子真不錯了 ✗ → 那個房子真不錯 ✓ (真 takes no closing 了; that 了 belongs to 太…了)
我真喜歡這個真大的房子 ✗ → 我真喜歡這個很大的房子 ✓ (真 voices a reaction, weak as a plain attributive before a noun; use 很 there)
他真高嗎? ✗ → 他多高? ✓ (真 affirms a degree, it cannot ask one — the degree question is 多+Vs)
English 'really' and 'very' both float as neutral intensifiers; learners reach for 真 where the flat 很 belongs, making every quality sound exclaimed.
