Casts a circumstance as a weight overhead
框 · Frame
在 [circumstance / condition] (之)下,[clause: the outcome borne under it]
觸 · Trigger
Name the surrounding circumstance that an outcome plays out beneath.
序 · The move
1State the surrounding circumstance — pressure, help, leadership, rules — and seat it: 在 … Is this a condition the outcome lives inside, not a physical place? Physical place takes plain 在…裡/上.
2Close it overhead with (之)下,then write the clause it presses on.Does the clause read as borne under the condition? If the clause causes the condition instead, the frame is upside down.
例 · Examples

Under the pressure of the competition, he performed less well than expected.
界 · Boundary
在1 (locative 在+place)
在…下 frames a circumstance the outcome bears; 在…裡/上 locates a thing in space. 在壓力下 = under pressure (figurative weight); 在桌子上 = on the table (real surface).
因為…所以…
在…下 sets the condition as a backdrop the outcome sits within; 因為…所以… asserts the condition CAUSED the outcome. The frame names the setting, not the mechanism.
✗ 在壓力,他表現不好 → ✓ 在壓力下,他表現不好 (the condition needs 下 to close the frame)
✗ 他表現不好下,在比賽的壓力 → ✓ 在比賽的壓力下,他表現不好 (condition goes inside the bracket, outcome follows)
✗ 在老師的幫忙下面 → ✓ 在老師的幫忙下 (the abstract frame takes bare 下, not 下面)
English 'under pressure' / 'under his leadership' maps the same image, but English drops any opener; learners omit 在 and write only 壓力下. The frame needs both ends: 在 to open, 下 to close.
