如果 is neutral and any-probability (if it rains). 萬一 narrows to one slim, unwanted case (in the unlikely event it floods) and wants a safeguard after it.
要是 is plain spoken 'if', no judgement on the odds. 萬一 builds in the verdict 'unlikely and bad' before you say anything else.
萬一明天天氣好，我們去爬山 ✗ → 如果明天天氣好，我們去爬山 ✓ (good weather is neither unlikely nor unwanted; use 如果)
如果他出事，怎麼辦 ✗ → 萬一他出事，怎麼辦 ✓ (a feared accident calls for 萬一's 'in case the worst happens')
萬一你來，我很高興 ✗ → 如果你來，我很高興 ✓ (a welcome visit is not the slim bad case 萬一 marks)
English 'if' covers every probability, so learners reach for 如果/萬一 interchangeably. 萬一 is closer to 'just in case' or 'in the unlikely event' — it must be both improbable and unwelcome.
