字源 FORM what the parts do

經 is silk (糸) with 巠 jīng for the sound, the warp strung taut from one end of the loom to the other; 由 marks where a thing sets out from, its source or course. Together 經由 lays the route end-to-end and names what it runs along. 而 is the borrowed beard-graph, here joining the two as and so. 來 is the wheat plant borrowed for to come; 而來 is the arrival at the far end. What sits between 經由 and 而來 is the route the thing rode in along.

故事 STORY a scene to remember it by

A thread is fixed at one marked end and runs taut to the far edge. A thing slides its whole length and steps off the end as what you now hold.

✗ 這個結論是經由他而來的。 → ✓ 這個結論是經由分析而來的。 (經由 takes a route or process, not a bare person — for a person's cause use 由於他的…)
✗ 經由統計,所以得到數據。 → ✓ 數據是經由統計而來的。 (no 所以 result-arm; 而來 lands the route on the thing itself, it is not a cause→result correlative)
✗ 這些數據經由統計。 → ✓ 這些數據是經由統計而來的。 (the route needs 而來 to close it onto the thing; 經由 alone leaves the arrival unmarked)
English 'derived from / arrived at through' folds route and arrival into one verb, so learners stop after 經由 and never close with 而來; the route is left open with nothing to ride in on. 而來 is the step that lands the path back on the thing.
