TSUMUGU · C1 (est.) · 字
魯
魯 = 魚 + 曰
ㄌㄨˇ · lǔ
adj — dull, blunt; (state of) Lu
字源 FORM — what the parts do
曰聲the worn donor beneath — yuē, dragged far to lǔnow looks like 日; once 曰, a mouth speaking
IFyuē → lǔ — the sound wore almost beyond recognition
A fish (魚) over 曰 — a fish so good it praises itself in the mouth: the old sense was savory, excellent. 曰 below carries a sound worn nearly past tracing, yuē dragged to lǔ. The everyday "dull, blunt" and the state Lu are later loans onto the graph.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
一條魚擺上桌,鮮得讓人開口(曰)讚——這字本是「好」。
A fish set on the table, so fresh the mouth (曰) opens to praise it — the graph first meant fine.
