字源 FORM — what the parts do

gàn — the sun rising behind a banner; gives the soundthe left block; not the same as 朝's left
{g,k,h}ITgàn → hán — the back-consonant slide g to h, tone too
tanned leather, hide bound and woven — the curb of a well was woven like this
Woven hide (韋) on the right, 倝 gàn on the left for the sound, worn from g to h. The old word is the woven curb that rings a well. It was borrowed early as a state name, then a surname, and now stands for Korea: 韓國、南韓.
