ITxiāng → niàng — the 襄 series scatters into n-, r-, x- (釀, 攘, 讓)
A wine jar (酉) plus the sound 襄 (xiāng) — to make wine, to ferment. 說文 says it plainly: 作酒曰釀, making wine is called 釀. From the slow turning of grain into wine came the figure for anything that builds quietly to a result: 釀成大禍, brewing into disaster.
