The walk (辶) and 貴 guì, precious things held in two hands. To let something fall on the road and walk on without it — to lose, to leave behind. From the dropped thing came what is left after one is gone: 遺失、遺留、遺產. 貴 lends the sound, the g-onset worn clean off.
