蹟
ㄐㄧ · jī
noun — a trace, footprint, mark left behind; a vestige, deed
字源 FORM — what the parts do
IFTzé → jī — initial, final and tone all shift
A foot (足) and the place it pressed down — the original is the spot a step lands, the footprint. 責 zé carries the sound, drifted hard from zé to jī; its own core is the thorn 朿 (cì), the deeper sound source. From the footprint come the traces left behind: 足蹟、遺蹟、古蹟, and the wondrous deed 奇蹟. Written 跡 or 迹 just as often.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
一隻腳(足)踩過,泥上留下一個印(責)——走過的證據。
A foot (足) presses down and a mark (責) stays in the mud — proof that someone passed.
