Water (氵) with 軍 jūn, an army wheeled into a ring. Stir up the riverbed and the silt clouds the whole body of water — muddy, turbid (渾濁, 渾水). From the whole clouding at once: 渾然一體 (all of a piece), and a thick, undivided plainness (渾厚). The sound slid from jūn to hún.
