ㄏㄨㄥˊ · hóng
noun/adj — flood; vast, grand; resounding
字源 FORM — what the parts do
氵義water
{g,h}Igòng → hóng — the {g,h} crossing of the back of the tongue
Water (氵) with 共 gòng, two hands lifting in common. All the water rising at once, every stream joined together — the flood (洪水). From that mass and force: anything vast (洪大), and a voice that fills the room (洪亮). The sound slid from g to h, the same throat-spot wearing softer.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
條條溪水(氵)一齊(共)漲起來,漫過了堤。
Every stream (氵) rises together (共) at once and tops the bank.
