dūn — gives the soundworn from 𦎫 (a ram-vessel of cooked offering), no longer readable as such

The right hand (攵) urges and presses; the left, worn from an old offering-vessel (𦎫, now looking like 享), carries the sound. From pressing earnestly comes the modern sense: solid, honest, kindly — 敦厚. The place 敦煌 and 倫敦 (London) borrow the graph for its sound.
