干
ㄍㄢ · gān
verb/noun — to offend, interfere with; a shield
字源 FORM — what the parts do
干形rendered bare — two tellings
A simple cross-piece on a shaft. The old graph carries two tellings: a forked weapon, the shield (干) raised to ward off blows; or, per 說文, an inverted 入, a thing thrust the wrong way through a line — to push against, to offend. Both reach the same place — going against something: 干涉、干預、干犯. As a sound-piece it builds 汗、旱、杆.
故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by
一面盾(干)橫舉在前,迎著打過來的東西,硬頂回去。
A shield (干) held crosswise in front, meeting the blow and pushing it back.
