字源 FORM — what the parts do
A length of cloth (巾) under 敝 bì, which gives the sound — exact, no drift. Silk and cloth were the gift and the payment before coin; the cloth tendered becomes money itself: 貨幣、紙幣. The same 敝 builds 弊、蔽.
