將 =
ㄐㄧㄤ · jiāng/jiàng
adv — about to, going to; (jiàng) noun — a general

字源 FORM — what the parts do

the left piece, a split plank stood on end — rendered bare
flesh — a cut of meat
a hand at the wrist — to take, to wield
A hand (寸) takes up the meat (月) and carries it forward — to bring, to take in hand. The old graph carries two tellings of where the sound sits: 說文 reads it 从𢦏从寸, the left piece a semantic graph with no clean phonetic; the later eye reads that left piece as 爿, a sound-donor worn from qiáng toward jiāng. From taking-in-hand come both branches: jiāng, about-to (將要、將來), and jiàng, the one who takes command, a general (將軍). The 爿-topped family runs alongside: 獎、漿、醬.

故事 STORY — a scene to remember it by

一隻手()托起一塊肉(),正要端上去。
