An ox (牛) over a mouth (口). The old graph carries two tellings: a warning board lashed to a goring ox's horns, telling everyone to keep clear — or the ox led to the altar while the prayer is spoken aloud. Both roads end in the same place: words made known. 告訴, 報告, 廣告.
