the wooden frame around a well's mouth — four logs crossed at the corners
Four logs laid across each other frame the mouth of a well. From the water well, every pit dug into the ground: 礦井 the mine shaft, 井田 the squared field. The crossed frame also gives 阱, the covered trap.
